Pease Baseball Professionals Abuse and Molestation Prevention Procedures Our Commitment: We are dedicated to providing a safe and respectful environment for all participants, free from abuse or harassment. Purpose The purpose of this document is to establish procedures that safeguard participants, staff, volunteers, and visitors at Pease Baseball Professionals from abuse, harassment, or molestation, while also outlining steps for reporting and handling incidents. 1. Zero Tolerance Policy Pease Baseball Professionals maintains a zero-tolerance policy for any form of abuse, harassment, or molestation, including but not limited to: - Physical abuse: Any non-accidental physical injury or harm. - Emotional abuse: Verbal or emotional mistreatment causing mental harm. - Sexual abuse: Inappropriate sexual contact, advances, or exploitation. - Neglect: Failure to provide basic care and supervision. Anyone found violating this policy will be subject to immediate disciplinary action, up to and including termination, and reported to the appropriate authorities. 2. Screening and Training Procedures To ensure a safe environment, Pease Baseball Professionals requires the following: a. Screening of Staff and Volunteers - All staff and volunteers must complete a background check before interacting with participants. - Background checks will be conducted using Jersey Watch, a reputable service tailored for youth sports organizations. - Applicants with prior allegations or convictions of abuse or molestation will not be eligible. b. Mandatory Training - Staff and volunteers must complete annual training on recognizing, preventing, and responding to abuse and molestation. - Training will be conducted through the U.S. Center for SafeSport program, which includes topics such as: - Identifying signs of abuse. - Understanding appropriate physical boundaries. - Reporting and responding to suspected abuse. 3. Supervision Guidelines To reduce risk, the following supervision rules must be observed: a. Two-Adult Rule - Two unrelated adults must be present during activities involving multiple children or vulnerable individuals. - One-on-One Instruction Exception: Private, one-on-one lessons or interactions are permitted if they occur in a public or observable space and are authorized by a parent or guardian in writing. b. Open-Door Policy - Private conversations or lessons must occur in open, observable, and interruptible spaces. c. Bathroom Safety - Staff and volunteers should monitor bathrooms as needed but should avoid entering unless absolutely necessary. If assistance is required, another adult should be present whenever possible. 4. Reporting and Responding to Suspected Abuse a. Mandatory Reporting All staff, volunteers, and coaches are mandatory reporters. If abuse is suspected: - Immediate Action: Remove the individual from harm. - Notify Authorities: Report the suspected abuse to local law enforcement or child protective services as required by law. - Internal Reporting: Notify Pease Baseball Professionals by contacting Jesse at jesse@peasebaseball.com. A written incident report must be submitted within 24 hours. b. Confidentiality Reports will be handled with the utmost confidentiality to protect all parties involved. Only those who need to know will be informed. c. Investigation Pease Baseball Professionals will cooperate fully with law enforcement and conduct an internal investigation if necessary. Staff or volunteers accused of abuse will be placed on administrative leave during the investigation. 5. Code of Conduct All staff, volunteers, and participants must adhere to the following: - Use respectful, age-appropriate communication. - Avoid any physical contact that could be interpreted as inappropriate (e.g., lap-sitting, hugging without consent). - Never share personal contact information with participants unless pre-approved. - Prohibit sharing of explicit or inappropriate content. 6. Participant and Parent Awareness Pease Baseball Professionals will: - Provide parents and guardians with information on abuse prevention. - Encourage open communication between participants and trusted adults. - Make this policy accessible to all staff, participants, and guardians. 7. Enforcement Any violation of these procedures will result in disciplinary action, up to and including termination or removal from the program.
